  • A lot of links to pictures shall give you an impression of how it looks where I lived.
The links point to remote sites, and are likely to become broken with time. BTW, I am not responsible for their content.

I grew up in Oberaudorf (homepage), Bavaria, situated in the Inn valley at the Austrian border (large panorama map). [mountain hiking pictures mountain hiking links.] Oberaudorf is surrounded,
on the Bavarian (German) side, by the mountains Wildbarren, Wendelstein (1845m) with observatory, the Tatzelwurm falls, Brünnstein, Großer Traithen (view), and the town of Kiefersfelden (from air, ferry to Ebbs, museum).
    Tyrol crest
on the Tyrolian (Austrian) side, by the Kranzhorn mountain, the towns of Erl (Erl crest), Niederndorf, Ebbs (church, St. Nikolaus), and the slope of the Kaisergebirge (in white, more below).
    Rosenheim crest
35km down the Inn is Rosenheim, Bavaria (tour): market place, shopping street, gate, church.
    Kufstein crest
10km up the Inn is Kufstein, Tyrol (panorama photo): castle, old town, upper downtown, savings bank, lower downtown.

Here is my high-school: from air, front, entrance, stairs, aula.

North of Rosenheim is the town of Wasserburg (follow links here, or here). To the east is the Chiemgau region with the town of Prien, and lake Chiemsee with Herrenchiemsee castle. Panorama map view from Kufstein to West, with mount Pendling (view onto Kufstein). East of Kufstein is the Kaisergebirge (chapel, lodge, peak, mountain lodges), and further North-East is lake Walchsee.

I studied in Munich, capital of Bavaria, at the Technische Universität München.

MUN seal Then I was in St. John's, Newfoundland at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, where the CS dept. is in the Engineering building, and where this was my residence for 3 1/2 years.
Newfoundland is the land of sea-birds, whales, icebergs, wide unpenetrable forests, many lakes (some with bivers or muskrats), moose, ospreys, long capricious winters, short summers, ... Life in Newfoundland is relaxed, people are very friendly
See here for some Newfoundland (snow) pictures. Pictures of the local newspaper.
St. John's is one of the oldest towns in North America (historic sites). St. John's is on the Avalon peninsula (map & tours 1 2) of Newfoundland (map & links 1 2).

I interrupted for a visit in Freiburg im Breisgau
Freiburg (map) is an old city (monuments, aereal pictures, slide show, tour) with 200,000 inhabitants: Martinstor (outer side, inner side), Schwabentor (view), market place (North, South, middle: cathedral 1, 2, 3), city hall 1, 2. Downtown is known for its artful cobble stone pavements.
